The National Rose Garden of Australia Inc. is a not-for-profit body established specifically to develop a nationally important Rose Garden in Tasmania. The members of the NRGA are the committee and represent a broad spectrum of Tasmanian interests and expertise. All members volunteer their time free of charge.

The Rose Garden provides a unique opportunity to capture the history of the rose. Design and planting of the gardens gives visitors a 'walk through history' representing the historic development of the rose covering all the main families. This educational focus is a dominant theme: everything we do has an educational basis including future plans for horticultural training programs.

The Garden was officially opened in 1st December 2001 by H.E. Sir Guy Green AC KBE CVO. More than 4000 roses and other plantings have been completed.
